Mockumentary... The film crew that scammed the Market Hotel: mixed up soapie star, Richard Viede (centre) with producer/writer Dean Francis and director/writer Katrina Mathers. The Market Hotel in South Yarra was the setting for a very public celebrity coming out recently when "washed up ex-druggy, former child star" Richard Veed made a brief appearance, accompanied by an American film crew. Or at least that's what drinkers at the popular gay club were led to belive. The film crew were in fact part of a "mockumentary" a send up of celebrity coming out stories, produced by Melbourne's enfant terrible of queer film, Dean Francis. According to Francis, Market patrons were easily fooled into believing they were sharing a genuine celebrity moment. "We used American accents and told people Richard was the star of (the fictional) Families Together. They wanted his autograph!" he says. The "factional" documentary - to be called MY PENIS WILL EXPLODE* - is a companion piece to the satirical soapie I Can't Even Think Straight!, which will premiere on the internet this Monday... *CRAZY RICHARD was originally titled MY PENIS WILL EXPLODE. |
