PRESS RELEASE: BUSY
MOOSEHEAD CHICKS Katrina Mathers and Fiona Harris, the two female writer/performers from the ABC's sketch comedy series FLIPSIDE were announced on Saturday night as one of three successful 2003 Moosehead recipients for their proposed new show called FOOTY CHICKS. The Moosehead Award is presented each year during the Melbourne Fringe Festival by the Brian McCarthy Memorial Trust to encourage and fund innovative new works by emerging and established working comic talent at next years' Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Previous Moosehead recipients have included: Judith Lucy, Lano& Woodley and Corinne Grant. Fiona & Katrina say they are both thrilled to receive the Moosehead Award, except for the fact that now they have to write a show! Fiona has recently completed filming a sketch comedy pilot as a writer/performer for a proposed new (as yet unnamed) series with Rove McManus as Executive Producer. She is also putting the finishing touches on her short feature script KID 17, for which she recently received development funding through the Australian Film Commission. Katrina is about to attend the Australian premiere screening of her much applauded debut feature as co-writer, co-director and actor CRAZY RICHARD, which is opening the inaugural AUSFEST digital film festival in Brisbane. She is currently in post production on another short film as director, starring Matthew Dyktynski. Katrina also recently performed alongside Rod Quantock and others at the Comedy Theatre in special ABC Radio Spike Milligan Tribute called I TOLD YOU I WAS ILL. FOOTY CHICKS, the show the girls received their Moosehead for, is a proposed narrative theatrical comedy based around two wannabe-girlfriends of AFL footballers, who want to get their heads on the telly at the telecast of the Brownlow.
